Plain BOPP Film

Yuhong Plastic produces Plain BOPP Film, also referred to as biaxially oriented polypropylene film, at its manufacturing facility in Xiamen, China. The film is made by extruding polypropylene resin into a sheet and then stretching it in both the machine direction and transverse direction. This biaxial stretching process creates balanced molecular orientation, which improves tensile strength, dimensional stability, transparency, and processing performance.

After stretching, the BOPP lamination film receives a surface treatment to support printing and lamination adhesion. It is then wound into rolls according to customer specifications. The product is available in a range of thicknesses from 18 μm to 50 μm and can be supplied as standard rolls, jumbo rolls, or custom slit rolls.

Material and Process Notes

Clear BOPP film is produced from polypropylene resin. The biaxial orientation process aligns polymer chains in two perpendicular directions, which increases stiffness and tensile strength compared with cast polypropylene film. The Food grade BOPP film also develops better optical clarity and lower haze.

The surface treatment applied after orientation is corona treatment or flame treatment, depending on the grade. This treatment increases surface energy and improves ink wetting and adhesive bonding. Untreated film is also available for applications where surface treatment is not required.

1. What is the difference between treated and untreated BOPP film?

Treated film has a modified surface that increases adhesion for printing inks and lamination adhesives. Untreated film has lower surface energy and is used when the surface will not be printed or laminated. Yuhong can supply film with one side treated, both sides treated, or untreated, depending on the application.

2. How should BOPP film be stored before use?

Store rolls in a clean, dry area at 15°C to 30°C and 40% to 60% relative humidity. Keep rolls in their original packaging until ready for use. Avoid direct sunlight and high temperatures. Under these conditions, the General purpose BOPP film retains its properties for 12 months from the production date.

3. Can Yuhong provide BOPP film in custom widths and lengths?

Yes. Custom slitting is available. The minimum order quantity depends on the thickness and width. Yuhong technical staff can recommend roll specifications based on your converting or packaging equipment.

4. Is the film suitable for direct food contact?
