Degradable Stretch Film

Yuhong Degradable Stretch Film Manufacturer supplies PE-based degradable stretch film with degradable masterbatch technology for pallet wrapping, logistics, and industrial packaging. The film maintains stretchability, cling performance, and load retention while supporting customized thickness, width, roll length, core size, hand stretch film, and machine stretch film formats

Yuhong manufactures Degradable Stretch Film using PE resin combined with degradable masterbatch technology. The film is used for pallet wrapping, warehouse packaging, transportation protection, and industrial packaging applications.

The material formulation modifies conventional PE stretch film characteristics while maintaining the wrapping functions required for packaging operations, including stretchability, film cling, load retention, and product protection.

Available production options include customized film thickness, width, roll length, core size, film type, and packaging format. The film is available in both hand stretch film and machine stretch film formats according to different wrapping processes.

Core Advantages & Performance

  • Controlled Degradation Mechanism: Formulated with customized degradable masterbatches. The polymer structure degrades under specific ambient environmental conditions (UV, temperature, moisture, and microbial activity) without leaving harmful toxic residues, supporting global environmental standards.
  • High Load Retention & Puncture Resistance: Maintains strong containment force to lock pallets tightly during long-distance road and maritime transport. Resists punctures and tears caused by sharp carton corners or irregular load profiles.
  • Up to 300% Pre-Stretch: High elongation capability means less film weight is required to secure each pallet, directly lowering total packaging cost per unit.
  • Optimal Cling & Smooth Unwinding: Engineered surface structure provides strong film-to-film cling without sticking to neighboring pallets or accumulating warehouse dust.
  • Degradable vs. Conventional Stretch Film Comparison

    Application Scenarios & Selection Guide

  • Manual Warehouse Operations (Hand Film, 10–17μm): Ideal for low-to-medium volume pallet wrapping, loose carton consolidation, and general cargo protection.
  • High-Speed Automated Wrapping (Machine Film, 18–35μm): Formulated for rotary arm and turntable stretch wrapping machinery operating under high tension for heavy industrial loads.
  • Export & Heavy Duty Packaging (23–35μm): Recommended for machinery parts, bulk construction materials, and intermodal freight shipping requiring long-term load stability.

    Manufacturing Process

    Raw Material Preparation

PE resin and degradable masterbatch are prepared according to the required formulation. Incoming materials are inspected before production to verify material specifications, batch consistency, and processing suitability.

    Film Extrusion

Prepared materials are processed through extrusion equipment to form continuous stretch film. Production parameters, including extrusion temperature, film thickness, cooling conditions, and film tension, are monitored during extrusion to maintain consistent film formation.

    Film Conversion

After extrusion, the film is converted into finished rolls according to specification requirements.

    Available formats include:

  • Hand stretch film rolls
  • Machine stretch film rolls
  • Customized roll sizes
  • The conversion process includes roll cutting, core installation, roll winding, and packaging preparation.

    Final Inspection

Finished rolls are inspected before shipment.

    Inspection items include:

  • Film appearance
  • Thickness consistency
  • Roll weight
  • Tensile performance
  • Elongation
  • Cling performance
  • Certifications and manufacturing capacity

    FAQ

Does the film have a shelf life? Will it degrade on its own while sitting in the warehouse?

Yes, it has a shelf life; under normal storage conditions, it is recommended to use it within 12–18 months. However, it will not simply "degrade on its own"—degradation requires specific triggers (such as prolonged UV exposure, high heat and humidity, or soil contact). In a cool, dry warehouse, its physical properties remain very stable, showing little difference from standard film.

Do different film colors affect the degradation rate?

Yes. Darker colors (like black or dark green) absorb more UV light and heat; theoretically, they degrade slightly faster than light-colored or transparent films. If your packaged goods require long-term outdoor storage, we recommend choosing transparent or light-colored formulations. For indoor warehousing and handling, the impact of color is negligible.

Can this film be recycled, or is degradation the only option?

It can be recycled, but it must be collected separately from standard PE film. In practice, if biodegradable film enters the conventional PE recycling stream, it may compromise the quality of the recycled material; therefore, separate recycling or processing via industrial composting facilities is recommended. If neither option is feasible, degradation serves as the final disposal method.

Do high or low temperatures affect the film's performance?

Yes. High temperatures (e.g., exceeding 50°C inside a shipping container in summer) may cause the film to soften slightly and stretch more easily, though load retention may decrease. Low temperatures (e.g., -20°C in cold storage) make the film brittle, requiring a reduction in the pre-stretch ratio. We recommend selecting a formulation suited to your specific operating environment; we offer solutions tailored for both high- and low-temperature scenarios.

Is there a difference in degradation rates between hand-grade and machine-grade films?

There is no fundamental difference. The primary distinctions between hand-grade and machine-grade films lie in thickness and stretch formulations, while the triggers for degradation remain the same. However, machine-grade films are generally thicker (18–35 μm) and may take slightly longer to degrade than thinner hand-grade films (10–17 μm) due to the greater volume of material per unit.

Can film scraps and trimmings be reprocessed?

Yes. Clean scrap generated during production can be recycled, pulverized, and reintroduced into the extrusion line, mixed with virgin material at a specific ratio. However, the proportion of recycled material is generally kept within 10% to 20%; exceeding this range can compromise the film's tensile properties and degradation uniformity.
