How can the inherent advantages of BOPP be transformed into ease of use?

1. Tensile strength and tensile resistance

The BOPP base material itself has a high elastic modulus, which makes the film less prone to plastic deformation during winding. When the operator breaks it by hand, the fracture is neat, and there is no phenomenon of excessive stretching or rough edges as is common in PVC films. 

For automated winding equipment, the uniform thickness of the base material (with the full-width thickness deviation controlled within ±3%) ensures tension stability and reduces the frequency of membrane breakage alarms.

2. Transparency

The cables on the production line usually have color marks or numbering identification. Cable Wrap Film has good light transmittance. After winding, the color and printing of the cables can still be clearly identified without the need to remove the membrane for verification, reducing the confirmation time between processes.

Sealing performance

1. Wide sealing window

The sealing temperatures set by different customers' winding equipment vary. The cable bundling film, after being treated with a modified sealing layer, can form a stable seal within a wide temperature range (140℃ - 180℃), and has a higher tolerance for the temperature control accuracy of the equipment. 

This characteristic reduces the rate of sealing failure caused by equipment fluctuations.

2. Sealing strength and peelability

The sealing strength of the winding film is not necessarily the higher the better. If the seal is too tight, it is difficult to tear when used at the end; if the seal is too loose, the package will disintegrate during transportation. 

Yuhong adjusted the sealing layer formula to ensure that the seal meets the requirements for transportation and bundling strength, and can be easily torn by hand without the need for a knife, reducing the risk of injury to the cables by the operators.

3. Low-temperature adaptability

Some cable products need to undergo refrigeration or transportation in cold regions. Regular films increase in stiffness and decrease in flexibility in low-temperature environments, and are prone to cracking. 

This product has been tested under cold and hot cycles and has been verified to maintain flexibility in the range of 0℃ to -10℃, and the seal does not crack.

Customization Flexibility

1. Thickness Customization (20-50 μm)

For thick cables and large wire harnesses, higher puncture resistance is required. It is recommended to choose the 40-50 μm specification; for thin cables, small wire harnesses, or high-speed automatic winding equipment, the 20-30 μm specification can be selected to reduce costs.

2. Width Customization

The cutting width can be customized according to the width of the winding equipment's guide wheel and the diameter of the wire harness. Both the master roll or finished small rolls can be provided.

The most notable differences lie in three areas. First, material composition—our BOPP-based film contains no plasticisers, therefore it does not become brittle or sticky over time, whereas PVC films tend to leach plasticisers, causing adhesion to cable insulation surfaces over extended storage. Second, tear behaviour—BOPP film produces a clean, straight tear line when pulled by hand, while PVC films often stretch excessively and leave ragged edges. Third, recyclability—BOPP is a mono-material that can be processed through standard polyolefin recycling streams, whereas PVC recycling requires specialised facilities and is less widely accepted in markets with stringent environmental regulations.

Q2: Does the film leave adhesive residue on cables after long-term application?

No. Unlike self-adhesive tapes that rely on pressure-sensitive adhesives, Yuhong cable stretch wrap achieves its closure through heat sealing. The sealing layer is a modified polyolefin formulation that bonds to itself during the heat-sealing process, not to the cable insulation surface. Upon removal, the film peels off cleanly from the cable without transferring any adhesive substance, leaving the insulation surface intact and residue-free. This is particularly important for cables that undergo subsequent processing steps such as connector crimping or terminal soldering, where contamination could affect electrical connectivity.

Q3: How does the film perform during prolonged exposure to elevated temperatures, such as in automotive engine compartments?

For standard-grade Yuhong cable stretch wrap, the recommended continuous service temperature range is -10°C to +60°C. This covers most indoor and general-purpose applications. For automotive under-hood environments where temperatures can exceed 80°C, we offer a heat-resistant variant with a modified formulation that withstands continuous exposure up to 100°C. Customers with high-temperature application requirements are advised to specify this condition during the initial consultation, as the standard grade would not be suitable and could risk seal degradation or accelerated aging.

Q4: Does the film thickness affect its flame retardancy performance?

Yes, though the relationship is indirect. The base material itself—BOPP—is inherently combustible, as are most polyolefin films. Flame retardancy is achieved through the addition of flame-retardant additives during the extrusion process. For applications requiring flame-retardant properties (e.g., control cabinets, railway rolling stock, or aerospace interiors), we recommend selecting a thickness of 40μm or above, as this provides sufficient loading capacity for the flame-retardant additive package while maintaining adequate mechanical strength. Please note that flame-retardant grade is a separate customisation option and must be specified at the time of ordering, as it requires a dedicated formulation distinct from our standard product.

Q5: Is there any risk of the film's heat-seal layer transferring onto the cable insulation during storage or transport?

Under normal storage and transport conditions, there is no risk of transfer. The modified heat-seal layer is engineered to remain solid and non-tacky at ambient temperatures. It only activates—meaning it softens and bonds—when exposed to the specific heat-sealing temperature range (140°C to 180°C). Once the film has cooled, the seal remains intact but the heat-seal layer reverts to a solid, non-tacky state. For transfer to occur, the film would need to be re-heated to temperatures approaching the activation threshold, which does not occur in routine warehousing or shipping environments. This inherent stability ensures the film will not contaminate cable surfaces during its service life.

Q6: What is the recommended shelf life for Yuhong industrial cable film, and how should it be stored?

The recommended shelf life is 18 months from the date of manufacture, provided the film is stored under the following conditions: away from direct sunlight, in an ambient temperature range of 15°C to 35°C, and at relative humidity below 75%. The film should remain in its original packaging until use to prevent dust accumulation on the surface, which could affect heat-seal performance. Storing the film under direct sunlight or at temperatures consistently above 40°C can accelerate the aging of the additive package, potentially causing a slight increase in peel strength over time. We recommend a first-in, first-out inventory rotation to ensure optimal performance.
